Is ZX Player really free?
Yes. It's free to download and use, with no ads, no subscriptions and no in-app purchases.
Does it need the internet?
No. Everything works offline, and there's no account or sign-in. The only time ZX Player goes online is when you tap Check for Updates in Settings → About ZX Player.
Does it collect my data?
No. ZX Player never uploads your videos or your data. Your watch history, favorites, playlists and settings are saved on your phone.
Which Android versions are supported?
Android 7.0 or newer. Copying, moving and the Recycle Bin need Android 11 or newer. There's no iPhone version to download.
How do I install the APK?
- Open this page on your Android phone and tap Download for Android.
- Open the downloaded APK from the notification or your Downloads folder.
- If Android asks, allow your browser to Install unknown apps, then go back and tap Install.
- Open ZX Player and allow access to your videos and audio.
How do I update?
Download the new APK and install it over the app you have. Updates are signed with the same key, so your settings, history and playlists are kept. In the app, Settings → About ZX Player → Check for Updates looks for a new version.
Does it support subtitles?
Yes. Pick a subtitle track built into the video, or load an .srt, .ass or .ssa file and adjust its delay. You can change subtitle size and background in Settings.
Subtitle files need to be UTF-8, and ASS styling and positioning aren't kept.
Does it need access to all my files?
No. It reads your media library, and on Android 14 and newer you can allow only selected videos. Copying, moving and deleting each go through Android's own confirmation, so it never asks for all-files access.
